Westside, located between the Jordan River Parkway and Downtown Salt Lake City, is a historic and industrial Salt Lake City neighborhood with a rail-lined streetscape and a patchwork of warehouses and modest homes. The neighborhood’s character concentrates around North Temple and 800 West, where light-rail platforms, murals, and small storefronts share the street with working yards and wide arterials. Brick bungalows and postwar cottages sit beside active rail corridors and big-sky views toward the Oquirrhs. The Gateway’s plazas and venues add an urban edge at the east end. Jordan Park and the International Peace Gardens bring lawns, paths, and seasonal color. The Jordan River Trail threads the west side with long, flat miles for walking and biking.

Mixed Use District
The purpose of the MU Mixed Use District is to encourage the development of areas as a mix of compatible residential and commercial uses. The district is to provide for limited commercial use opportunities within existing mixed use areas while preserving the attractiveness of the area for residential use. The district is intended to provide a higher level of control over nonresidential uses to ensure that the use and enjoyment of residential properties is not substantially diminished by nonresidential redevelopment. The intent of this district shall be achieved by designating certain nonresidential uses as conditional uses within the Mixed Use District and requiring future development and redevelopment to comply with established standards for compatibility and buffering as set forth in this section. The design standards are intended to facilitate walkable communities that are pedestrian and mass transit oriented while still ensuring adequate automobile access to the site.; MU-5: The purpose of the MU-5 Mixed Use 5 District is to implement the city???s general plan in areas that identify mid-rise buildings, generally 5 stories or less in height, that contain a mix of land uses.
