At 81 years old and not very computer literate it would have been very helpful and reassuring to me to have more personal (phone contact) from the agent who had my case. I know I did not have the necessary skills to do this on line and we had a non-traditional financial situation. And every time I thought the whole process was finished we got another request, right up until the last day! I do appreciate that everything working out in the end. Perhaps every mortgage application has similar issues. But it was very stressful for me!

The communication and service I received from Neil when I was initially completing my loan application was excellent. However, after I signed a contract and was passed off to an assistant, the level of service was noticeably reduced. Emails were missed, questions went unanswered. etc. Biggest of all was an errant $2100 charge for points which I was in error on my closing disclosure. It was remedied quickly, but if I didn't catch it I would have been out over $2k. The closing went smoothly.

There was a time where I needed pre-approval for Monday offer, and I reached out to him on Sunday afternoon and my pre-approval was ready by Monday morning. Overall had a 5 star refinancing experience when I first dealt with Homespire Mortgage however within this purchase the extra lender credit was not communicated and we left that on the table due to the lack of communication. It was way more stressful than any other closings I have had unfortunately. I have opted for a higher interest rate to get the highest lender credit. Turns out, on settlement date, I noticed an extra $700 provided which I did not qualify for due to regulations. So it's credit left on the table, existed on paper but did not benefit me as the buyer at all. After inquiring twice about what that extra amount is, homespire responded explaining that the lender credit ended up being higher but made no difference as we did not get it... Given the rates being so low, I understand everyone is busy but it would have been nice to know the lender credit prior so I did not have to lose that. Especially after mentioning lender credit many times...

Our RedFin agent recommended Neil and Homespire Mortgage as a potential mortgage company that RedFin had tremendous positive experience partnering with. We initially went with another mortgage company through our own web search, but given the higher than desired interest rate and closing fee quoted, we decided to change direction and contacted Neil and Homespire Mortgage a few days past the start of the escrow process. Neil was able to respond very quickly, and provided a very competitive rate with a minimal amount of closing cost. Despite the slightly shorter escrow time duration remaining, Neil and Homespire Mortgage were able to complete the loan request and meet the escrow timeframe. We appreciated Homespire Mortgage team's expertise in going through the loan request - underwriting process, even under such stressing Covid-19 shelter in place restrictions/delays. Homespire Mortgage was able to complete the loan with minimal interaction with requesting client. One slight note from our experience working with Homespire Mortgage - was the relatively independent way Homespire Mortgage run the loan request - underwriting processes, with little status feedback back to the client. At times the client was not exactly sure where the loan process was, and at the very end of the escrow window, a misunderstanding on the accounting of monthly escrow and external credit, did cause a few non-optimal solution and change penalty on the client side. A slightly more frequent feedback through the process may help. Outside this note, really appreciated the help and expertise from Neil, Kevin, and the entire Homespire Mortgage team. We would love to have an opportunity to work with Neil and team again in the future.

Having the perfect lender is a must. At first I was skeptical dealing with a private lender, however after dealing with bank/ credit unions final approval got very frustrated and very disappointed how slow they work . The market is very competitive and waiting for lenders approval can delay the process, causing the opportunity to miss negotiations point. Neil was truly my HERO during this home purchase. My previous lender offered me a mortgage, then later realized that their systems were incapable of handling a deed with ground rent, which is everywhere in Baltimore. After bit of back-and-forth, I was left in need of a new lender with a WEEK until closing. Neil stepped in and was able to get me from application to final approval in EIGHT days.
