While my agent and title company were perfect, the mortgage process itself was anything but. Horrible communication, ignoring documents that were submitted, only to have underwriting ask for something I already sent in to find it was never attached to the file. (Oh, I get a call that they need information pieces A,B,C, and D RIGHT AWAY. I gather those, email them in, only to be met by an out of office for the next 2 weeks automatic reply.) Lots of roadblocks at the last minute due to "federal guidelines." Well, if they were federal guidelines, then that information should have been provided up front. If you call, text, or email for updates, you'll get radio silence. However, if they need something from you, they'll certainly call you and make you drop everything you are doing because "underwriting needs it right now..." It is also worth noting that they will push responsibilities they should be doing on you. In my case, "I" had to go to my HR team to get them all the verification of employment documentation they needed. I almost got written up by my HR department because as an interested party, I should NOT be the one requesting this information, the lender should. When Redfin Mortgage DID call for the other information they needed, they were incredibly rude to my HR manager. (I later had a meeting with my HR manager where she apologized to "me" if I was having to deal with the same nonsense that she did when speaking with Redfin.) They get a 3 out of 10, because in the end, the loan was funded, and my mortgage officers ASSISTANT provided me with the communication I needed. However, this was the 3rd house I have purchased in my lifetime, and was far and away the worst experience I have EVER had with a mortgage company. To make matters worse, most of the problems conveniently showed up at the last minute when we were too close to closing to go with another lender without pushing back the closing date. I have never experienced anything that caused me as much stress as this place did. Feel free to use Redfin as a search engine and information provider. Their ease of scheduling and agents make the search process seamless. However, avoid Redfin Mortgage if you value your sanity.

My experience with Redfin Mortgage was less than pleasurable. Less than two days before my scheduled closing I was notified by Arnell that we didn't have a "required" HOA approved budget to close. I feel the lender dropped the ball and almost cost me a timely closing in addition to everything that was scheduled. If it wasn't for my attorney going the extra mile we wouldn't have been able to close in the same week. This made what should have been an exciting event into a stressful down to wire nail biter.

I never spoke with Matt as I worked directly with Elaine and she we super responsive, helpful, and professional. She kept the process moving quickly and made buying our first home as easy as possible. Nothing but great things to say about her. In fact, I had a great experience with everyone except the underwriter.

Very happy with the team! They were able to lock us in an amazing rate. The only bummer was not being able to do home improvements with the loan. Other than that, excellent service.

I'll never recommend Redfin Mortgage again. I had to wait 2 weeks in a hotel before I closed. I found out within hours of being packed and moving from Dallas to Houston that my closing would be delayed again because the underwriters required more important information from me that I could have given them many weeks earlier. Right before moving I was told by the team that I most likely would be closing within a couple days. I reached Houston, and I didn't mind a few days in a hotel, but not two weeks. Every day or so I got more "sorry" emails. I realize that it's reasonable that short staff can be a problem, but then I found out that other Redfin closings were being closed with no problems at all. Also, the team that communicated with me were inadequate communicators to say the least. One of them didn't know what some of the terms meant that was sent from the underwriter, and the other one didn't give me any specifics of the problems. They simply kept repea ting that they were doing the best they could and would close as soon as possible. They said I was prioritized, but that doesn't match my personal experience with their communication. I spent two weeks in a hotel and my dog had to spend two weeks in dog boarding. I've already decided that I will contact Redfin with a bill for my unnecessary expenses by the end of this week. If they don't respond, I will certainly pursue the matter further.

Our experience with Redfin Mortgage was nothing short of a nightmare. I added a 1 for the fact they acknowledged their shortcomings in an email well after the close, however, it did not make up for the lack of service we received. 1. No follow up or updates on your application. 2. Non-transparent process where we were uninformed of progress. 3. No response to our communication attempts via email or phone. We had to file escalations through our Redfin Realtor to get any response or updates. 4. Completely mismanaged and botched our closing. We were supposed to close remotely but they changed this at the last minute to force us to close with an unknown notary. This directly increased our exposure to Covid-19 for no other reason than someone didn’t check a box on our application. We repeatedly sent emails indicating our intent to remote close, we were assured that this would happen but it clearly did not. 5. Incompetence in processing our documentation where we specifically asked to fix problems with our application numerous times but still resulted in us needing to fix them on the day of close! How ridiculous is that. They are not a professional team. Unless you’re getting a less than 1% interest rate on your mortgage from them, you are better off working with a more established and competent mortgage lender. Please save yourself the time and stress by not choosing Redfin Mortgage.

Matt provided great insight into the lending process as well a current market conditions. Our purchase was a smooth as can be and he and Jennifer were able to move our closing date up 2 weeks like it was nothing! Highly recommended!
