Overview
Port Townsend, WA, is known for its Victorian architecture, artist community, and sprawling views of Puget Sound. The city is home to around 11,000 people, making it one of the smaller cities in Washington. There are a lot of fun and interesting facts about Port Townsend, one of which is that it is home to Fort Worden Historical State Park, a park with 433 acres of land and over 2 miles of shoreline. The park was originally a United States Army Coast Artillery Corps base created to protect the larger Puget Sounds from invasion by sea during WWII. Additionally, it was known as the "City of Dreams" due to early speculation that the city would be the largest harbor on the west coast. Today it goes by the nickname "Key City" because of its strategic location guarding the gate of Puget Sound.
