The inspectors were not that friendly and I don’t think they did too much to justify their $1000 price

The impression I got is that their inspection is geared towards flagging unnecessary things to get fixed by their hand-man division. First time I saw such over-exaggeration of what they called "defects" and also the first time I saw a home inspection company to provide an estimate to come back and fix the defects they themselves flagged, as part of the inspection report. And their estimates are much higher than quotes we got from other sources to fix the same issues. This sounds like a huge conflict of interest to me, but apparently it is ok in Marin County, CA. We have been involved in several real estate transactions through the years and the home inspectors are usually very careful not to suggest they can be hired to fix the defects they find. Some of them actually go as far as saying they can't give out even ball park figures to fix defects to not get into a conflict of interest situation. Not sure if this is common practice by other home inspection companies in Marin County; but my suggestion is to try a different one.

They forgot to check the furnace and the PG&e guy told us there was Carbon monoxide coming out of the unit when turned on which could have killed us.
