We bought a vintage Chicago house (build in 1885), and I'm so glad we went with Mike for our inspection. He was incredibly thorough and detailed while going through the house while offering a ton of insight and knowledge into the construction. He was able to clearly explain what he was looking at. Going with Mike actually made me confident in our purchase, and doing the inspection with him was surprisingly fun. Even if you're not purchasing a vintage Chicago house, I would recommend him in a heartbeat.

This guy is a great inspector. He caught stuff I think most inspectors would over look. He works in a team with a younger guy who climbs on the roof and in the crawl spaces but they are talking on walkie talkies and checking things in and out as they turn on and off. His demeanor is not for the light hearted. I appreciate the straightforward shoot from the hip no BS. But the faint at heart might be put off by his straight talk to the point style. (Don't interrupt him while he is telling you about something with the home.) But he truly found things and looked in places I think most inspectors miss. We re really confident in our purchase after he came.

Mike is an excellent inspector. He finds things that (in my experience) other inspectors gloss over. He is very clear about what the problems are and how to prioritize them to get them taken care of. Additionally, he knows a lot about the history of housing in the Greater Chicago area. Every time I've used his services he has been able to provide a lot of background on why things were done the way they were done as well as tell you during which decades things were done certain ways. He's amazing.

Mike is a FANTASTIC inspector. He will tell you everything that is wrong with a place, but also let you know what is/should be a deal breaker and what is not. We walked away from a townhome with potential structural problems and are in the process of closing on another than was in much better shape. He is much better than other inspectors who are just going to give you a surface inspection and not really dig into a property.

Mike did a great job for us the 2nd time around (didn't close on a home after an inspection Mike did previously) and again walked us through the issues of the home, coached us on what was standard and expected in the city of Chicago. His reports allowed for minimal negotiation from the sellers, with regards to major issues, and were clear about what we could do as home owners to improve our living situation. He was great at accommodating on short notice and was available to answer questions post inspection as well. We would recommend Mike to anyone looking for an ASHI certified inspector who is an expert in the Chicago market!
