About Old Great Falls Historic
District
Old Great Falls Historic District, located between the Great Falls of the Passaic River and Downtown Paterson, is a historic and industrial Paterson neighborhood with a dramatic river gorge and brick mill architecture. The neighborhood’s character concentrates along McBride Avenue at Spruce Street, where trailheads, overlook paths, and museum entrances create a steady, outdoors-meets-history rhythm. The Paterson Museum, the Great Falls Visitor Center, and the Hinchliffe Stadium complex act as cultural anchors tied to the city’s manufacturing legacy. Cobblestone remnants and factory facades frame streets that feel like an open-air archive of the Silk City era. Overlooks and footpaths stitch together the river, the falls, and the old mill district. The atmosphere shifts from rushing water at the gorge to civic energy near the stadium and museum campus.
