Buying a home is incredibly stressful - particularly in the Somerville market - but Matt made the whole process so smooth for me and my partner. He was very easy to communicate with and simplified each step of the way so we understood what we need to do from start to finish. He also helped us understand the dynamics of the various players, what to consider for submitting/negotiating an offer, what to ask for as part of the inspection process and so much more. Knowing nothing about buying a home here, we asked for recommendations for everything - lawyer, broker, home inspector, etc. - and we loved everyone we used. Another fun fact about Matt - he helped my boyfriend propose on the steps of our new house :) Definitely not part of his everyday job, but he was a great sport!

Matt was patient and knowledgeable. I spent 10 years looking at over 200 places of and on and put in 2 bids in this time. Matt was my rep for both. He served as an inspector (I had to waive inspections in my winning bid), and was able to meet me at the condo when I had something delivered or sent someone else from Redfin. Plus, at the final punchlist walkthrough, he found items that were not completed and very strongly expressed that it was not exceptable. This resulted in money being given to me from the developer. For example, the lawn was not tended to after they seeded it 2 months prior to closing. They gave my condo association $1500 for sod because of Matt's objections.

I like Matt because he is smart, responsive and provides good customer service. He put my interest before closing the deal. As buyer agent, that is rare. At one point, he recommended me to walk away from the deal as the seller was not reasonable and too aggressive during the negotiation of purchase and sale agreement. Matt has been extremely helpful and also patient as we've house hunted for several years. He has helped us win a couple of offers that fell through for other reasons. More recently we've lost out to higher bidders, but reflecting on those, Matt was gently suggesting that our offers were "good" (his exact word) but not necessarily good enough to get us the place. I think he has a good grasp of what it takes to win in this market, but it's just hard to reconcile that with our cautious natures.

Matt was a very responsive agent in terms of using email, or answering/returning calls. He also uses docusign technology that saves a lot of driving and speeds the process along. Working with RedFin is a completely different process because Matt was my main agent, but I viewed properties with other members of his team as well. I did have a good experience with Matt and believe he was very thorough and effective. However my only recommendation is for him to be careful on not panicking his clients too much during the process and of building better relationships with other vendors (mortgage lenders,etc). I saw too many escalations and rushes that were not always communicated in the right manner - everything always felt urgent.
