The only thing I can see giving people pause is Redfin's model of searching for homes. With Redfin, the buyer does the searching, whereas it looks like most other real estate shops offer the service of searching for homes on behalf of the buyer. We had previously purchased with Redfin and had an incompetent agent who cost us a lot of money. However, the 1.5% listing fee was so attractive that we gave Redfin another chance. We sought out Melanie after briefly working with her on a prior lease. At first it seemed like she was excited and eager to work with us but after signing the listing agreement, we moved to the bottom of Melanie's priority list. We live on the West Coast and Melanie helped us sell our 4 bedroom rental unit in Houston TX in 2018. This was not an easy sale as the tenant had left the place in sorry condition. Melanie took a realistic and positive approach to helping us with this sale. She made herself available to help vendors and tradesmen get into the the unit and make the necessary repairs. She even provided us with referrals for help when our own resources came up dry. Her advice on pricing, marketing and timing were spot on. We were very disappointed with Melanie as a selling agent. We have worked with many real estate agents in the past, however this was our first time with Redfin. We thought that this may be a good opportunity to save money, using the 1% listing fee. The discounted listing fee was not worth it. Melanie was unmotivated, and did not appear to take our home sale seriously. Not only was Melanie not able to sell our home during a 3-month listing period; but she also put us in compromising situations, as a seller. She also could not be reached after 5pm, which I have not experienced with other real estate agents. To my knowledge, Melanie did not personally visit or show our home after it was listed.
